that I have just signed a contract with Picador for the publication of my new novel, SALVAGE – out in 2025!
For the last few years I’ve been telling people it’s about space billionaires, but it’s only peripherally about space billionaires; really it’s about the many forms of escape and survival, about the obligations of care, and about the small pockets of utopia that we can make with our bare hands and hearts at the edges of this troubled world. It was written between two global catastrophes – the Covid-19 pandemic (I started it in January 2020, when I was living in northern Italy) and the genocide in Gaza, both of which have revealed so much about the world’s troubles, its hurts and its hypocrisies, and the enormous challenges we face in making change. I’ll write more about the book itself in coming months. I hope you like it. I hope it helps.
This is my sixth book and my third with Picador, who have snapped it up with great enthusiasm. Here I am looking very encouraged by this, and genuinely excited about the work ahead:
And here is my dog Willow, keeping everything in perspective. Nothing could ever be as exciting or as encouraging as a ball, thrown on a beach, by a person who has been woken at dawn for this very purpose.
